Zhytomyr region urges blackout compliance after Russian strike on substation
Authorities in the Ovruch community of Zhytomyr region have urged residents to comply with blackout regulations after a Russian attack destroyed the local electrical substation. Mayor Ihor Korud announced the appeal on Saturday, November 7, warning that power restoration will take considerable time. The mayor specifically requested that all external lighting be switched off, including building illumination, advertising structures, light signs, facade lighting, shop windows, and other objects. He emphasized that blackout measures must be observed not only by enterprises and organizations but also in every private household, with yard and exterior lighting turned off. Korud explained these are necessary security measures that depend on the protection of the community and people's lives. The appeal follows a combined Russian air attack on the night of November 7, which involved missiles and 172 drones, with air defense units destroying most targets but some strikes hitting energy infrastructure.
