Russian strikes damage Kyiv bridge and power grid as temperatures drop
Russian forces struck energy infrastructure around Kyiv with missiles and drones overnight, damaging the Northern Bridge across the Dnipro River and straining power and heating supplies as temperatures neared zero, officials said Saturday. At least two people were killed and a dozen wounded across Ukraine. The strikes hit systems sending power from two nuclear plants to Kyiv and central regions, causing serious damage, the energy ministry said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported only four of 36 ballistic missiles were intercepted, with some North Korean-made, and substations in five other regions also hit. The attacks come three days before US-brokered trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, the first since February, involving senior Russian and Ukrainian officials. Moscow has recently expanded targeting of Kyiv's bridges, while Ukraine also launched drone and missile strikes on Russian regions causing minor damage.
