Russian strikes on Kyiv cut power and heating as temperatures drop
Russia launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Saturday, leaving Kyiv without electricity and heating as temperatures neared 0°C, killing at least two people and injuring about a dozen others. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones were fired, with 149 drones shot down, targeting power facilities across the capital and five other regions. The strikes also damaged Kyiv's North Bridge over the Dnipro River, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Moscow confirmed the attack, claiming it targeted military-industrial, energy, and transport sites. The strikes come days before trilateral peace negotiations in Abu Dhabi, which Zelensky criticized as Russia preparing for talks with missile launches.
