Trump's Ukraine Peace Claims Draw EU and NATO Caution
The EU and NATO are tempering expectations for peace negotiations in Ukraine scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi under US mediation, urging caution despite President Donald Trump's claims that a deal is imminent. European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said "much work remains" before an agreement, while EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stressed that any accord "will require the European Union to be part of it." NATO spokesperson Allison Hart noted a Thursday Brussels meeting aimed to advance "a just and lasting end" to the war. Trump met with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev at the White House and told journalists the agreement would be "very big" and could "encompass all of Europe," though he has made similar unfulfilled claims before. Separately, the death toll from Monday's Russian strike on a humanitarian aid distribution point in southern Ukraine rose to 50.
