France and US work on moratorium on strikes against Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure

French President Emmanuel Macron said after a meeting with US President Donald Trump that the two countries are working on a moratorium on strikes against Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure. Macron announced the joint effort in a post on X following their talks in New York. Macron stated that France and the US will combine efforts to achieve the moratorium, emphasizing that civilians must be protected and serious peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine should begin as soon as possible. The presidents also agreed to act jointly to reduce tensions on energy markets and protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East. The meeting took place ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's scheduled bilateral talks with Trump on September 22, covering diplomatic efforts to end the war, energy issues, and strengthening Ukraine's air defense. Zelensky has previously stated Kyiv is ready to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries in exchange for a mutual halt on attacks against Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
