Ukraine completes evacuation of residents from occupied Oleshky
A humanitarian evacuation of residents from occupied Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region has been completed successfully, with participants safely returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory. The mission rescued civilians including a 94-year-old man and a child over one year old. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed the operation's success, stating evacuees also included dogs, cats, a parrot, and a raccoon. He noted the difficult journey but emphasized the goal was achieved and people were saved, with further assistance and medical care promised for those evacuated. The silence regime for the operation lasted until November 1, 22:59, described as the longest since 2022. Lubinets thanked US First Lady Melania Trump, President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian rights commissioner Yana Lantratova, hoping this mission establishes a new mechanism for humanitarian crisis response.
