Evacuated Oleshky residents arrive in Belarus en route to Ukraine
Hundreds of residents from Russian-occupied Oleshky, Ukraine, have been evacuated to Belarus as part of a truce-brokered humanitarian mission, with four planes arriving in Gomel on Saturday. The White House says US First Lady Melania Trump helped broker the deal. Ukrainian parliament member David Arakhamia confirmed the arrivals, and evacuees were met by rescue workers, medical teams, and Red Cross volunteers. The civilians are due to be transported to Ukrainian territory within hours, following bus convoys that began Friday under a rare regional truce expected through Sunday. The estimated 2,000 residents were offered a choice of traveling to Ukrainian- or Russian-held territory or staying with replenished supplies. Melania Trump posted that over 750 people could be safely evacuated, while Pope Leo XIV also pressed leaders for aid deliveries and evacuations.
