Evacuated residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky arrive in Ukraine
Evacuated residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region crossed the Ukrainian border in Chernihiv Oblast on October 31 as part of a humanitarian mission, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pledging necessary assistance to the evacuees. The evacuation route passed through Belarus due to danger, with the group traveling from Russian Anapa to Gomel, where emergency workers, medics, and Red Cross volunteers met them. Pets, including dogs, cats, a parrot, and a raccoon, were also brought out, with animal protection organization UAnimals arranging veterinary care. Zelenskyy thanked the American side and First Lady Melania Trump for mediation, as well as Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. The oldest evacuee was 94, the youngest just over a year old. The silence regime on the Kherson front lasts until November 1 at 22:59.
