Evacuated residents of Ukraine's Oleshky arrive in Belarus
Four planes carrying residents evacuated from the Russian-controlled Ukrainian town of Oleshky have landed in Belarus, according to Belarusian state media and a senior Ukrainian official, marking the end of a US-backed local ceasefire evacuation. The evacuees left Oleshky during a humanitarian pause, the first of its kind and longest in the war nearing its fifth year. They traveled by bus via Crimea to Anapa, Russia, then flew to Gomel, Belarus, before continuing to Ukraine by road, said Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia. The ceasefire, mediated by US first lady Melania Trump with Pope Leo's involvement, has held since Tuesday, allowing de-mining and aid deliveries. Around 1,700 people remained in Oleshky from a pre-war population of 24,000, with many elderly or ill.
