2 dead in demining as ceasefire holds in Ukraine's Olesjky

metronieuws.nl (Dutch) —

The ceasefire in the Ukrainian city of Olesjky is holding, according to Russia's human rights commissioner, who also reported two deaths during a demining operation. Residents can leave the occupied frontline city by Friday at 2:00 PM local time via special buses. Russia and Ukraine announced Thursday that mines around Olesjky had been cleared, enabling a humanitarian operation to begin. A convoy carrying food and medical supplies is en route to the city, and buses have been arranged for evacuations. Russian forces captured Olesjky, near the city of Cherson, shortly after their invasion in February 2022, triggering a humanitarian crisis. The US-brokered ceasefire is set to last until at least Sunday.
