Evacuation of civilians from Oleshky completed
The evacuation of civilians from Oleshky has been completed, marking the first time since February 2022 that a Ukrainian official has visited Russian territory. The humanitarian mission was carried out with support from US First Lady Melania Trump. The operation began on October 29 after Ukrainian and Russian delegations met in Gomel, Belarus, before traveling via Anapa to Oleshky. Ukrainian and Russian ombudsmen Dmitro Lubinets and Yana Lantratova prepared 25 buses with at least 750 seats, plus transport for bedridden people, accompanied by 50 medics and nine ambulances. A separate bus carried pets. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky initially said 527 people planned to return to Ukraine but later clarified the figure was inaccurate. The evacuation occurred under a ceasefire that has been in effect for over 80 hours since October 27. Some residents were taken to Ukraine, others to Russia, with exact numbers still unknown. Humanitarian aid will be delivered to those remaining in Oleshky. Russian, Ukrainian, and American journalists accompanied the mission.
