Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy grid leave 280,000 households without power
Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have left hundreds of thousands of families without power, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Attacks targeted thermal power plants, electrical substations, railway infrastructure, and a gas distribution facility. Around 200,000 households in Dnipro and the region, plus over 80,000 in the Kyiv region, lost electricity. On October 30, a Shahed drone hit a Kyiv thermal plant; overnight, four substations in Dnipropetrovsk region were struck, and a drone hit a plant in Shostka on October 31. Repair crews are working to restore power. Zelensky called for stronger international pressure on Russia via sanctions and increased aid. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported over 350 Russian strikes on the energy sector since September, damaging more than 800 pieces of equipment.
