Demining complete in Oleschky, Ukraine and Russia begin civilian aid operation

diepresse.com (German) —

Demining around the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleschky has been completed, allowing a humanitarian operation to deliver aid and evacuate civilians to begin. The operation was mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump and announced by human rights ombudsmen from both Ukraine and Russia. A locally limited ceasefire is in effect until Sunday, enabling a convoy to deliver food, water, medicine, and fuel to the city's hospital. Hundreds of residents have registered for evacuation, and the pause also allows for the removal of bodies stored in a hospital basement. Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinez traveled to the occupied territory via Russia, defending the route due to mined front-line areas. The city, with about 1,500 of its original 24,000 residents remaining, has been a front-line town since November 2022.
