Evacuated Residents from Oleshky Now Safe in Ukraine, Zelensky Confirms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a humanitarian operation in occupied Oleshky, Kherson region, was successful, with all evacuated citizens now having crossed Ukraine's border in Chernihiv region. The operation involved establishing a ceasefire to demine roads and deliver aid. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported that evacuees ranged in age from just over one year old to 94 years old, including families trapped in destroyed buildings and a man who survived 16 drone attacks and four missile strikes. Pets, including dogs, cats, a parrot, and a raccoon, were also rescued. Oleshky is a frontline city in Russian-occupied territory facing a humanitarian crisis. A silence regime, brokered with US First Lady Melania Trump's mediation, runs from October 27 to November 1, during which 750 people were evacuated, while those choosing Russia were taken to Simferopol.
