Ceasefire lets humanitarian convoy evacuate residents from Russian-occupied Oleshky
A temporary ceasefire has enabled a humanitarian convoy to evacuate residents from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky, with hundreds of civilians successfully removed in a joint operation. The mission, mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump, was the first joint Russia-Ukraine relief effort in four years and eight months of war. A convoy of 25 buses and ambulances delivered food and medicine, allowing residents to relocate to either Ukrainian or Russian-controlled territory. The ceasefire began Tuesday and is set to last until Sunday night, marking the longest truce since the 2022 invasion. It also permits demining of roads, though two people died during these operations. The Kremlin stated this truce will not extend to the rest of Ukraine.
