Evacuation convoy from Olesjky reaches Crimea after rare ceasefire

nos.nl (Dutch) —

An evacuation convoy from the besieged Ukrainian city of Olesjky has arrived on Russia-occupied Crimea, following a rare ceasefire brokered by Pope Leo and Melania Trump. The buses are now heading toward Russia. The convoy of 25 buses and 9 ambulances carried several hundred of the estimated 2,000 remaining residents, leaving food, medicine, and fuel for those who stayed. Two people died during the evacuation, including a Russian sapper clearing mines. Evacuees can remain in Russia, fly to Belarus, or travel 1,500 kilometers to northern Ukraine. The Kremlin called the cooperation a one-off event, as a drone attack in Dnipro killed at least 15 people.
