Evacuees from Russian-occupied Oleshky reach Ukraine after weed-eating ordeal
Residents evacuated from the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky have arrived in Belarus and are expected back in Ukraine later on Saturday, following a local ceasefire brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump. The evacuees, trapped without food, water, and electricity, had resorted to cooking garden weeds to survive. Planes carrying the residents landed in Gomel on Saturday morning, with a bus convoy heading towards the Ukrainian border, according to Belarusian state media and Ukrainian officials. The humanitarian ceasefire, in effect across the Kherson region since Tuesday, allowed the mined road out of the city to be cleared. Several hundred residents chose to stay despite the devastation, while Russia has prepared aid for those remaining.
