Aid and evacuations begin in Russian-occupied Oleshky

sueddeutsche.de (German) —

A humanitarian operation has begun in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian frontline city of Oleshky, with evacuations and aid deliveries underway under a US-mediated local ceasefire. Ukrainian presidential party leader David Arakhamia confirmed the operation on Telegram, stating the six-day truce is holding. The route was cleared of mines, and dozens of tons of food, hygiene supplies, fuel, and medicines are being delivered by Russian and Red Cross teams. Several hundred residents have registered for evacuation from the city, where about 1,500 of the original 24,000 inhabitants remain. The ceasefire may also allow the removal of around 100 bodies stored in a hospital basement.
