Evacuation from Oleshky: Russia casts itself as savior of a city it occupied — Newsmax report
Newsmax reporter Shelby Wilder stated that her crew is in Oleshky, Kherson Oblast, to act as independent observers, noting Russia is using the humanitarian operation as a propaganda opportunity. She emphasized that Moscow controls what the media is allowed to see. Wilder said Russia wants to present itself as a savior of a city it occupied, destroyed, and plunged into a humanitarian crisis. She noted that Russian media are covering the operation extensively, while Newsmax is the only American outlet present, meaning her team lacks full access and locals may be under pressure. The evacuation from Oleshky was organized with White House mediation, which Wilder called a historic event and an important moment in the war. Around 1,700 people remained in the occupied city, and a local ceasefire was brokered by First Lady Melania Trump, running until November 1.
