Why Russia Keeps Targeting Kremenchuk: Key Sites in Poltava Region

news.telegraf.com.ua (Ukrainian) —

Russia regularly attacks Kremenchuk in the Poltava region, striking an industrial enterprise in the district on the night and morning of October 30. The attack occurred on a day of mourning for three people killed in a residential strike the previous day. The city's key target is its oil refinery, Ukraine's largest before the war, producing 38% of national gasoline and 14% of diesel in 2021. Russian forces severely damaged it in April and May 2022, and technological processes remain halted as of late 2026. Other targets include plants for technical carbon and railcar manufacturing, plus railway hubs and bridges over the Dnipro River. These transport links are critical for supplying Ukraine's military and civilians.
