Aid and evacuations begin in Russian-occupied Olesjky after local ceasefire
Aid has arrived in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Olesjky following a local ceasefire, with evacuations of residents now underway. The operation provides food, medicine, hygiene items, and fuel to a population suffering acute shortages. Around 25 buses are evacuating residents, who can choose to go to either Russia or Ukraine. Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergij Koretskyj stated those heading to Ukrainian-controlled areas will travel via Russia and Belarus. Ukraine's Dmytro Lubinets noted this is the first ceasefire covering such a large front section since 2022, though two people died during prior mine clearance. The ceasefire was reportedly negotiated by US First Lady Melania Trump and has lasted over three days. Kremlin spokesman Dmitrij Peskov called it an isolated event, warning against hopes for broader peace, as military attacks continue elsewhere in the country.
