China's envoy to US lists 'red lines' ahead of Trump-Xi summit

China's ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, declared Taiwan, democracy and human rights, development paths and systems, and development rights as "red lines" that must not be crossed, ahead of the Trump-Xi summit. Writing in the Communist Party's People's Daily, Xie stated that managing US-China differences depends on good faith, urging Washington to stop using national security, economic imbalances, and forced labor as pretexts to contain China. He emphasized that cooperation benefits both nations while confrontation harms both. Beijing has repeatedly demanded Washington halt arms sales to Taiwan, which China claims as its territory. Trump recently delayed a $14 billion weapons package for Taiwan, calling it a "good bargaining chip," while Taiwan's security officials say Beijing views this delay as an opportunity to increase pressure in the region.
