Zelenskyy explains Ukraine's renewed strikes on Russian refineries

unian.net (Russian) —

Ukraine has resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries in response to Russia's systematic attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with PBS. He stated that Russia violated the "energy ceasefire" agreement multiple times. Zelenskyy explained that he had agreed to halt strikes on refineries if Russia stopped attacking Ukraine's power grid, but Moscow broke the deal. After four days of continued Russian assaults, Ukraine retaliated by targeting refineries, gas facilities, and diesel production sites that are painful for Moscow. The Ukrainian president also proposed an alternative to US President Donald Trump: Ukraine would pause strikes on Russian refineries for a month if the US provided Patriot missiles for that period. He noted that Russia had been stalling on supporting the ceasefire initiative.
