Kyiv could cut power outages to four hours daily if Russian strikes stop, expert says

unian.net (Russian) —

Kyiv could reduce power outages to a maximum of four hours per day within three days if Russian attacks on the energy grid stopped, according to energy expert Oleksandr Kharchenko. He stated that another three to four days without strikes would allow the city to eliminate outages entirely. Kharchenko said Russia has attacked high-voltage substations supplying the Kyiv region almost daily since August, forcing constant repairs. He noted Kyiv lacks its own generation capacity after strikes in January 2026, with local output under 100 MW against a demand of 1–1.2 GW. The expert estimated that building 700–800 MW of new generation would take private investors 3–3.5 years. On November 2, Ukraine's energy grid faced one of its largest attacks, with over 20 strikes on energy facilities causing major damage.
