Ukraine's power grid worsens sharply in a week, energy expert says

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Ukraine's electricity transmission situation has significantly deteriorated over the past week, according to Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Centre. Omelchenko said Russian attacks damaged thermal generation, halting the Trypilska and Prydniprovska thermal power plants, and caused major damage to substations and high-voltage transmission lines operated by Ukrenergo. Ukraine's Energy Ministry reported 94 Russian attacks on the energy and oil-and-gas sector last week, causing 208 incidents. Since September, over 800 pieces of energy equipment have been damaged in more than 350 strikes.
