Why Kyiv faces more power, metro, and water outages this autumn

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Kyiv is experiencing more frequent power outages, metro disruptions, and water supply issues this autumn, a change from last winter when residents barely noticed such problems, according to energy experts interviewed by NV. Emergency blackouts were implemented in the capital and region on November 2, with metro service on the green and red lines temporarily restricted due to significant voltage fluctuations. The energy system remains in constant crisis during the war, said Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Centre, with Russian strikes on energy infrastructure intensifying since autumn, making the crisis more noticeable. These attacks have led to new power cuts across several regions, with disruptions recorded in multiple areas on the morning of November 2. Omelchenko stated that this situation will persist until the end of the heating season, as the intensified strikes and ongoing strain on the grid continue to affect daily life in the capital and beyond.
