Ukrainians face water shortages as Russian strikes hit energy grid
Ukrainians risk losing water supply due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, potentially requiring water to be delivered by tanker trucks, according to Oleh Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Utility Services. Popenko stated that if strikes on the energy system continue, cities may fully transition to water delivery by tankers. He cited a recent incident in Dnipro over the past weekend, where hundreds of thousands of people were left without water, with critical supply issues also reported in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Experts previously warned that Russian attacks could cut power to pumping stations, causing pressure drops or complete water outages. In late October, an attack on Kyiv's critical infrastructure reduced water pressure in the capital, and prolonged blackouts may lead to scheduled water supply in most cities, with upper-floor residents facing disruptions.
