Russian Airstrike on Zaporizhzhia School Kills at Least 18
At least 18 people were killed Monday in Komishuvaha, in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, after Russia dropped about ten aerial bombs on a school where civilians were receiving humanitarian aid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported. Zelensky stated the attack targeted a school used for humanitarian purposes and that additional bombs hit a shelter where people had taken refuge. Rescue operations were ongoing when he provided the initial death toll, and he described the strike as having few precedents due to the number of bombs used against a civilian area. The president said Russia's actions signal opposition to de-escalation, contrasting with a recent six-day truce in the Kherson front for civilian evacuations. He called for a strong and firm international response to the attack.
