Ukrainian Air Defense Downs Russian Drone Carrying Propaganda Leaflets Over Kyiv
On the evening of November 4, Ukrainian air defense shot down a Russian drone carrying propaganda leaflets and phishing materials intended for Kyiv, according to Commander Robert Brovdi of the Unmanned Systems Forces. The drone, intercepted near the positions of the 427th separate brigade "Rarog," contained both a warhead and a brick of leaflets urging people to "stop the arbitrariness of the military enlistment offices" and falsely claiming a Ukrainian volunteer unit was created in the Russian army. The leaflets also featured potentially dangerous QR codes. Brovdi warned civilians not to scan the codes, calling them a likely enemy trap to steal data or infect smartphones with viruses. The incident coincides with intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid November cold, targeting civilian power and water supplies alongside Kremlin information operations.
