Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Kills 24, Zelenskyy Says Peace Progress Halted
A Russian airstrike on the Zaporizhzhia region killed at least 24 people on Monday, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to say it has halted progress toward peace. The attack targeted a school used for humanitarian aid. The strike involved at least nine KAB-3000 bombs on the village of Komyshuvakha, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. Zelenskyy said a second wave of bombs hit a shelter where people were hiding, and that Russia is "counting on more deaths." The attack followed a rare humanitarian truce that allowed residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky to reach Ukrainian territory on Saturday. Zelenskyy called for a strong global response, while Russian forces also resumed attacks on the Kherson region.
