Ukraine faces up to 20-hour daily power outages this winter, expert warns
Ukrainian energy expert Yuri Korolchuk predicted that power outages in major Ukrainian cities could reach 20 hours per day during the winter, according to Strana.ua. He called these figures realistic. Korolchuk stated the best-case scenario would be 12 hours on and 12 hours off, but outages could increase to 16-20 hours with colder weather or damage to energy facilities. He noted that Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odesa face the highest risk, while some regions have better conditions. Emergency outages began in several Ukrainian regions on November 3, affecting Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to energy holding DTEK. Recent Russian strikes targeted thermal power plants and energy infrastructure in these areas.
