Russia kills 33 in massive strike on Ukrainian energy sites
Russia launched a massive attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, killing at least 33 people in a strike on a village in the Zaporizhzhia region and wounding 46 in a hospital attack in Kharkiv, Ukrainian authorities said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia used 76 missiles and 289 drones in the assault, which hit power plants and substations from Odesa to Rivne, causing blackouts in Kyiv and six other regions. He called the Zaporizhzhia attack "one of the largest Russian mass killings in this war" and linked the timing to the US congressional election, urging more American air defense support. Russia's defense ministry said it struck energy facilities in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions, while Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK said three of its five thermal plants stopped producing power. A Russian oil refinery in Yaroslavl was also damaged in a drone attack, and Russia reported shooting down 856 Ukrainian drones overnight.
