US asks NATO allies for $2 billion more to fund Ukraine arms purchases
The US plans to ask NATO allies for additional funding to purchase American weapons for Ukraine, citing a shortfall of about $2 billion for already approved packages under the PURL program. The request for extra contributions to the Ukraine Priority Requirements List could come this month, according to Bloomberg sources. Washington has continued supplying arms even as allied payments lag behind delivery rates, with the deficit potentially growing if the Pentagon approves more shipments. The initiative signals continued US defense support despite tensions between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Last month, Washington threatened to halt PURL deliveries over Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, but did not follow through.
