Macron and Trump discuss West Asia conflict and Ukraine war in New York
French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday he had "very constructive" talks with US President Donald Trump on the Middle East and Ukraine conflicts, following their meeting in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly. Macron said they discussed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, blockaded by Iran, and the Red Sea situation, stressing the importance for global prices. He also pressed Trump on supplying defensive missile interceptors to Ukraine and raised an energy truce and Black Sea moratorium. Macron met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the UN sidelines Monday. He traveled from Saint Pierre and Miquelon, where he met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is in a tariff dispute with Trump.
