Trump disputes FBI claim that North Korea hacked Binance
President Donald Trump disputed the FBI's claim that North Korean hackers were behind the October 29 attack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which resulted in the theft of approximately $6.3 billion. He stated on November 1 that the connection to North Korea is not yet confirmed. The FBI had attributed the attack to the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor, noting the group typically converts stolen funds into Ethereum and launders them through instant exchange services. The bureau urged crypto companies to block transactions from wallets linked to the group. Binance reported on October 31 that it had reimbursed clients for 90% of stolen funds, covering major tokens like BTC, ETH, and USDT. The remaining 10% involves less liquid tokens requiring more time to replace. The exchange manages over $160 billion in assets for more than 300 million users.
