FBI Links North Korean Group TraderTraitor to $6 Billion Binance Hack

ndtv.com —

The FBI has accused North Korea of stealing over $6 billion in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance, in what is believed to be the largest crypto heist ever recorded. Binance has stated it will fully cover the financial impact of the theft. The FBI attributed the attack to a North Korea-affiliated group called TraderTraitor, which was also blamed for a $1.5 billion theft from the Bybit platform in February. Binance has used company funds to replenish 90 percent of the stolen tokens, with the remaining 10 percent expected to take longer to source. President Donald Trump cast doubt on North Korea's involvement, saying "we don't know if it's North Korea." The hack caused major cryptocurrency prices to fall sharply, with Bitcoin dropping nearly five percent. TraderTraitor is believed to be part of the Lazarus Group, known for a 2014 Sony Pictures hack.
