Binance restores 90% of funds stolen in $6.3 billion hack

jpost.com —

Binance has replenished 90% of assets stolen in a record $6.3 billion hack, covering losses with company funds. The remaining 10% consists of less-liquid tokens that may take longer to source. The exchange set aside approximately $6.34 billion internally, with replenishment involving a partial deployment of its $1 billion Secure Asset Fund for Users. Co-CEO Richard Teng described the breach as a "complex attack" using a compromised laptop and malicious software to delete evidence. Binance took a new asset snapshot on October 31 for proof-of-reserves, allowing users holding 10 listed tokens to verify 1:1 backing. Withdrawal services remain on track to resume Sunday, November 1.
