Binance restores withdrawals after recovering 95% of $6.3 billion stolen in record crypto heist

biz.nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Binance has announced a phased resumption of withdrawals after recovering 95% of $6.3 billion in tokens stolen in the largest digital heist in history, which the FBI attributes to North Korea. The first phase covers major tokens including bitcoin, ether, BNB, Solana, XRP, and dogecoin. The remaining 5% involves less liquid assets requiring more time to restore. The FBI identified the North Korean state-funded group TraderTraitor as responsible, noting attackers converted stolen assets to Ethereum for laundering. North Korea denies state involvement in cybercrime. Earlier reports indicated the attack compromised a DevOps engineer's laptop without leaking private keys. Binance froze about $3 billion, with $2.7 billion blocked by Tether and Circle, and pledged full user compensation from its SAFU emergency fund.
