FBI Blames North Korea for $6.3 Billion Binance Crypto Heist

vrt.be (Dutch) —

The FBI has accused North Korea of being behind the cyberattack on Binance, the world's largest crypto platform, in which approximately $6.3 billion was stolen. Binance temporarily suspended all transactions, and some users can now make withdrawals again. The attack, announced Friday, saw $3 billion of the stolen funds immediately frozen. This is not the first such incident, as North Korean hackers allegedly stole $1.5 billion from crypto exchange Bybit last year. Binance stated it has replenished 90 percent of the stolen funds and will absorb the financial impact to protect users. Crypto experts noted early signs pointed to North Korea, which is known for using hacker groups to steal funds to support its projects. Binance confirmed that a portion of its clients can resume transactions as of this morning.
