FBI links Binance hack to North Korean group in record $6.3 billion theft
The FBI said Saturday that North Korean hackers orchestrated the theft of billions of dollars from Binance, marking the largest crypto heist in history. The bureau attributed the attack to an entity known as TraderTraitor. The FBI linked the attack to the same actors behind a $1.5 billion Bybit hack last year and asked crypto exchanges to block transactions tied to specific addresses. The hackers are converting stolen assets into ethereum and may use decentralized finance services to launder funds. On Thursday, $6.3 billion in bitcoin and other digital currency was stolen from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange. Binance said it has reserved funds to cover 90% of the missing assets and promised full customer reimbursement.
