Binance restores withdrawals after record $6 billion crypto heist
Binance resumed withdrawals for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies on Sunday after hackers stole over $6 billion in assets, marking the largest crypto heist ever. The exchange began restoring services in phases following security checks. The FBI attributed the attack to North Korean group TraderTraitor, which previously stole $1.5 billion from Bybit in February. Binance pledged to cover 90% of losses using company funds to replenish stolen tokens, while the theft caused sharp price drops on Friday. Withdrawals were restored for Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, XRP, Base, Doge, and Optimism as of 5 a.m. Eastern Time, with more assets to follow. The FBI urged private entities to block transactions linked to TraderTraitor's laundering addresses.
