FBI links North Korea to Binance crypto heist

newsbomb.gr (Greek) —

The FBI attributed Saturday's massive cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance to the North Korean-backed hacking group TraderTraitor, resulting in the theft of $6.3 billion in funds. The FBI stated it detected group members attempting to convert stolen funds into ethereum and predicted similar future actions. Binance has replenished 90% of stolen assets and committed to covering the remaining 10%, assuring users they will bear no financial burden. The attack, considered the largest cryptocurrency theft in history, may have originated from a hacked laptop belonging to a Binance engineer, granting hackers access to systems for unauthorized withdrawals.
