FBI Blames North Korea for Record $6B Crypto Heist on Binance
The FBI has officially accused North Korea of orchestrating the largest cryptocurrency heist in history, stealing over $6 billion from the Binance exchange on October 29, 2026. The agency identified the TraderTraitor hacker group as responsible for the attack. The FBI stated the hackers were converting stolen funds into Ether and laundering them through DeFi services and instant exchanges. It published a list of about 500 Ethereum addresses used in the laundering process and urged crypto platforms to block related transactions. Binance reported that 90% of the stolen assets have been recovered, with the company absorbing the financial impact. President Donald Trump expressed doubt about North Korea's involvement, while TraderTraitor is linked to the Lazarus group, which previously hacked Sony Pictures in 2014.
