FBI links Binance hack to North Korean group TraderTraitor
The FBI has attributed the theft of billions of dollars from Binance, the largest crypto heist in history, to North Korean hackers. The bureau identified the attackers as an entity known as TraderTraitor, which was also behind a $1.5 billion Bybit hack last year. The FBI asked crypto exchanges and blockchain analytics firms to block transactions linked to specific addresses to prevent laundering, noting TraderTraitor is converting stolen assets primarily into ethereum. The bureau expects the group to use DeFi and instant swap services to further obscure the funds. On Thursday, $6.3 billion in bitcoin and other digital currency was stolen from Binance within minutes. The company said it has reserved enough of the same digital currency to cover 90% of the missing assets and promised full reimbursement to customers.
