FBI Blames North Korea for Record $6.3B Binance Crypto Heist
The FBI has accused North Korea of orchestrating the largest cryptocurrency theft in history, stealing $6.3 billion from Binance in just 20 minutes last Thursday. The agency warns the funds are being laundered to finance Pyongyang's nuclear and military programs. The FBI attributes the attack to the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor and has released about 500 Ethereum addresses linked to the attackers, urging blockchain firms to block related transactions. Binance has resumed withdrawals after covering most of the stolen assets through insurance and emergency reserves. About 5% of the stolen funds remain unrecovered due to low-liquidity tokens, which will take longer to replace. President Donald Trump has expressed doubt about North Korea's involvement, while Binance, founded in 2017, operates internationally without a central headquarters.
