Binance loses $3.6 billion in customer funds after hack

blick.ch (German) —

Binance has lost $3.6 billion in customer funds since resuming withdrawals on Sunday, following the largest crypto hack in history. The outflow represents 2.1 percent of the exchange's managed crypto assets, though the company says withdrawals are now stabilizing. The attack occurred Friday when cybercriminals stole approximately $6.3 billion in Bitcoin, Ether, stablecoins, and other tokens within 20 minutes. Bitcoin fell to a six-week low in response, and the FBI has accused North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor of being behind the attack. Binance has pledged to fully compensate customers for losses, partly using its Safu insurance fund. The platform says it has secured 90 percent of the stolen amount, with the remaining ten percent consisting of less liquid tokens that will take longer to recover.
