FBI links Binance hack to North Korea, warns of further laundering
The FBI has officially accused North Korean state-sponsored hackers of stealing $6.3 billion in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance, marking what is believed to be the largest crypto heist in history. The bureau identified the group as TraderTraitor, which it said is converting the stolen funds primarily into Ethereum and expects further laundering through decentralized finance services. Binance has covered 90 percent of the losses using company funds and suspended withdrawals, which are set to resume Sunday. The FBI has urged crypto exchanges and analytics firms to block transactions linked to the hack. The same actors are blamed for a $1.5 billion Bybit theft last year, and experts warn the laundering process could unfold over months.
