FBI links $6B Binance crypto theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor
The FBI announced that North Korean cyber activity group "TraderTraitor" was responsible for the theft of over $6 billion in cryptocurrency from exchange Binance, urging private firms to block laundering. The theft occurred around October 29, with Binance reporting losses of approximately $6.3 billion and temporarily suspending deposits and withdrawals. The FBI, working with USSS and IRS-CI, confirmed attackers converted funds mainly to Ethereum and are expected to launder via DeFi services. The FBI published affected wallet addresses and requested THORChain operators and other services to block transactions. Binance Japan stated customer assets remain safe in cold wallets, with withdrawals temporarily paused but expected to resume within 48 hours.
