Binance resumes withdrawals after hack as clients pull $3.64 billion

20min.ch (German) —

Binance has resumed customer withdrawals after a cyberattack, with clients withdrawing $3.64 billion, or 2.1% of assets under management, according to the company. The exchange says it has covered about 95% of stolen funds from its reserves. Withdrawals initially spiked but have since stabilized, Binance reported Monday. Analytics platform DefiLlama estimates outflows at $5.81 billion, a figure Binance disputes, saying DefiLlama incorrectly includes internal transfers to new company wallets. Binance managed $171 billion in assets at the end of October. The FBI attributes the $6.3 billion theft, the largest in crypto history, to North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor, linked to Pyongyang's intelligence service. The FBI released about 500 Ethereum addresses used for laundering and urged exchanges to block transactions involving them.
