FBI blames North Korea for record $6.3 billion Binance crypto heist; Trump disputes claim
The FBI has blamed North Korean hackers for stealing $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world's largest exchange, in what it calls the biggest crypto heist in history, though President Donald Trump has questioned the attribution. The FBI linked the attack to a group known as TraderTraitor, which was also responsible for a $1.5 billion hack of exchange Bybit last year. The hackers are converting stolen assets into Ethereum and may use decentralized finance platforms to launder funds. Trump said investigators do not yet know if North Korea was involved, without ruling it out. Binance said it has reserves covering 90% of the missing assets and promised full customer reimbursement.
